Baby Quilts: My Happiness Project

Last week I gave in to a bad attitude and blame it on the arctic temperatures and massive amounts of snow in Minnesota. So this week I decided to create a Happiness Project. It’s pretty simple: I’m going to make happy little baby quilts.

Charming Bars Baby Quilt

I already finished piecing Charming Bars with fabric leftover from the Jolly Bar Bon Bons quilt. Sewing simple rectangles to create this modern quilt was very uplifting. Seriously, I love Zen Chic’s White Christmas fabric line. Next month I’ll quilt this top for a baby who’s due to arrive before Easter. (I already purchased a colorful print for the backing.)

Butterfly Patch Baby Quilt

Currently on my design wall is my spin on Lella Boutique’s Butterfly Patch pattern. The original pattern makes a 66-inch square quilt. However, I’m trying to size it down to half that size so it’ll work as a baby quilt. Although the original pattern incorporates pieced blocks, I’m using mostly simple charm squares and a few half-square triangles from Lella Boutique’s current fabric line, Garden Variety. Hopefully I’ll finish piecing this quilt top during the snowstorm that might drop from 6 inches to 12 inches of new snow this weekend. (Now you understand why I’m sewing a butterfly from florals. I won’t be seeing either one in my yard for quite awhile!)

Moda Love Baby Quilt

The third baby quilt in my queue is a Moda Love charm quilt, which will use up some cool Fandango fabric by Kate Spain. This quilt will satisfy my need for spring greens and coral. And I think it’ll be perfect for Jack’s Basket this spring!
