Crushing on You: Jolly Bar Row Along

Welcome to the Fat Quarter Shop’s Jolly Bar Row Along week 4 when we sew two Crushing on You quilt blocks. To sew along you’ll need a copy of the new Jolly Bar Book Vol. 2 from the Fat Quarter Shop and weekly instructions found at the Jolly Jabber blog. In case you missed it, you’ll find all the information to start your quilt at the Jolly Jabber kick-off post.

We’re sewing only two blocks this week, so you can easily catch up if you’re joining late. The Crushing on You blocks are where you might use your favorite prints. I really wanted to find a way to insert some tiny red hearts in the center, but in the end, I decided they were cute just as they are.

Teach Someone to Sew

This quilt is beginner-friendly, so I want to encourage you to teach a friend or child how to sew even if it’s just one block. If you need some help, I wrote a blog post about teaching children how to sew.

Last Saturday my eight-year-old nephew asked if I would teach him how to sew, and he spent a happy afternoon pulling scraps out of his grandma’s stash and sewing room wastebasket to make a small improv quilt. My mom and I had so much fun watching him exclaim in excitement when he found small pieces with stars and army men and horseshoes. Then Grandma found alphabet fabric so he can add his initials next week. He thought that was awesome!

Please let me know if you’re teaching someone how to sew! I am guessing that there are a lot of new sewists who are making masks and ready to try something different.

Joyfully,

Tracie

P.S. If you missed my previous posts, I already sewed Sparrow Tracks, Spinning Spools, and Migration blocks.
