Finished! My Off-Road Jeep Adventure Quilt

This month I joined Christa Watson’s Squiggles quilt along, so my goal was to keep up and have a finished quilt by the end of February. Hooray for a finish! I stitched on the binding and took my quilt outdoors for a few adventure shots in the fresh snow.

I had a few curious onlookers in my neighborhood as I played with staged my husband’s vintage Tonka toy Jeep in the snow.

He has quite a collection of these old toys in his home office. (I want to count them, but he’s on a video conference call, and I already made one accidental appearance today. Oops!)

Chapter 2: Our Jeep Story

When I introduced this quilt project at the beginning of February, I explained why Jeeps play an important role in our relationship. If you read it, you’ll understand one reason why I had to make a quilt from Riley Blake’s J is for Jeep fabric.

Chapter two is all about family. When our two kids were young, my husband restored a 1946 Willys — the first civilian model of the Jeep built after World War 2. This is his grown-up toy, and he loves to give us rides to the A&W drive-in or Dairy Queen.

Years ago our son had a military-themed birthday party. (This was before the 9/11 terrorist attack, so playing with plastic army guys was a fun thing for little boys). Here’s a birthday photo of the kids piled into our Jeep before a few spins around the cul-de-sac.

It’s all those years of family memories that make this Jeep special.

This summer I plan to load the back of the Jeep with a picnic basket filled with goodies and our new Off-Road Jeep Adventure Quilt. We’ll either ride off into the sunset or pull into Dairy Queen for a Blizzard.
