Welcome to My Country Home

On the same day I finished the Jolly Bar Row Along, I learned that we were moving to a home in the country. In seven days’ time, my husband and I went from no plans to move to making an offer and listing our home for sale. Now that we’ve been in our new location for almost a month, I’ll show you a few glimpses of our home. Plus, I would like to hear your opinions about my next quilt project.

Moving to a Country Home

After signing papers and getting keys, we pulled into the driveway. There was God’s beautiful rainbow over our house! It was a wonderful reminder that he is faithful to keep his promises.

The white farmhouse is only a few years old, yet it blends in with the older farmhouses in the surrounding neighborhood. Keep in mind that all we did is step into someone else’s beautiful design choices. Below are paint swatches of the colors on the interior walls. On my own, I probably wouldn’t have chosen the bolder green and blue hues, but I love them!

Dover White covers all the wainscoting, cabinetry, and trim. Window Pane is the predominant wall color in the house; it’s a pale gray-green that takes on a bluish hue as the light changes during the day. Rainwashed, which is only slightly darker than Window Pane, is a calming color on my husband’s office walls.

My kitchen is Country Squire, and I love how the dark green contrasts with the white tile. Not only will the large island be wonderful for baking but also for cutting up fabric and basting quilts.

Jasper, a dark green that almost looks black or navy, blankets the master bedroom and powder room walls. Tricorn Black is on the front door, tying in the black window trim. Moscow Midnight, another bold jewel tone, gives life to the upstairs bathroom and basement family room walls.

The last color, French Moire, covers my sewing room walls.

The color feels a little cold, even though my sewing room has south and west-facing windows. Do you think I should paint it Window Pane or Rainwashed? Or leave it as is and add warmer color with curtains and wall decor?

A New Quilt for a New Home

I’d like to make a new quilt for our couch in the great room. While shopping for fabric, I came across Brenda Riddle’s new line, Dover. I think it would look great with the colors in the room. Plus, it seems to have a soft country vibe. What do you think?

There’s a coordinating cotton/linen fabric (large swatch with the coordinates). I’d like to use it for pillows and the quilt background fabric. If you’ve worked with Moda’s Mochi Linen, I’d like to know how well it washes and whether it ravels a lot during the construction process.

I’m going to use a new Short Cut Quilts pattern by the Fat Quarter Shop. All the pieces are simple squares and rectangles. In January I’ll show you a completed quilt top!
